Lightbulb April BWE Extension

Georgiabackground effect

I don't know if this is the correct place to be posting this particular question, but I figure if I don't know then this is better than none.

This is simply an opinion and I would love to hear Gaile's opinion on this. I wanted to know if the April BWE could be extended to release. How I mean this is... Those who got the preorder early (pre-determined month) would not only get to play the weekend of the April BWE but would be able to continue to play throughout the following week or so before release. After that pre-determined month those who purchased the preorder would get to start playing a day before the retail release as mentioned already for all those who have the preorder.

Has this been mentioned before? Good/bad idea? I'd like to know.

you know the W in BWE stands for weekend right?
If you make it last for more than a weekend, it is no longer a BWE.

besides, many, many people have previously lambasted anet about how the beta events only last a weekend and only occur once a month. the reason being that devs use the down time to go over all the bug reports/suggestions/notes/etc. collected during the event and improve upon the game. this methodology seems to be working very well for them and i doubt that it will change prior to retail. my opinion is that if they need to work on it to make it better, let them.

You have to recognize the reasons of why ArenaNet is offering the BWEs, sure it is in part to allow Guild Wars fans to enjoy the game before it is released, yet the main purpose is to test areas, features and skill balancing. The interim between the last BWE and release will most likely be used to fix any new issues and prepare for launch. I'm not saying it is a bad idea, as I would also love to see folks able to play early yet it is most likely impracticable for the devs. I'm sure if it was in the fans best interest to extend BWE they would, but in the end playing a bit afterward is a small price to pay for a stable & successful launch.

Actually BWE stands for Bye-Bye Work Event, as everyone seems to call in sick during them..

You are right. The recent BWE I had a muscle ache all over. It was probably my brain telling me that I would be a total idiot if I went to school that day. Sadly I had three exams that friday...

Talking Sick or not

For once, since I work graveyards, the BWE did not fall on the weekend that I work. It was nice that I didn't actually have to call off sick! I would have had to take at least one of those nights off to play. Now my only concern is explaining to my wife why I need to play this and why it takes up so much time... Easy enough. What I've told her has worked so far.

Can't wait for my sick calls next month!

Well, what about opening the PvP areas only then? I am absolutely unaware of the work load at anet for beta events, but can imagine that when opening the arenas or tombs only it is less work than opening the whole PvE.

Would be very nice if we are allowed to PvP every weekend from now on

Ive done alot of beta testing games and this one is far diffrent thats for sure. The game is so well done when you sit down for a BWE its hard to remember that it IS a beta event. Just wanted to add for people that read this thread is that it is a beta test and /bug is your friend. Seems to me the dev's do a real good job on player feedback witch is nice.

The one day leap is good enough for me. In that one day some peeps will already be 20 I would bet. Even in the last week they will be working their fingers to the bone on tweaks and goodies. With a newer version waiting for us by the time we get our CDs. If the devs need quiet time to get stuff right then I can wait a few more days(of real sleep) to play.

I can't see them doing that, I was hoping that instead of a 1 day grace period for beta accounts to play the full game they would give preorderers a 3 day grace period. Allowing me to play the 27th is great and all, but what store is selling the game the 27th? I also am not aware of any store opening at midnight to sell the game, so that means I have to wait to go and pickup the game when the store opens. Disappointing kind of, I wouldn't mind a grace period of 27th and 28th :P But who knows, maybe it will ship sooner and be available earlier then the 28th in some places?

Cool April 27th issue

My guess is that we'll still be able to play off our Beta accounts so we can play on the 27th. If thats not the case then I know they got something up their sleeve and they've got this issue handled.

I can't wait til the next BWE! I'm hooked! This game is better than I ever imagined it would be. I'm sure glad I decided to wait on this game instead of jumping on World of Warcraft and paying $15/month. They've got some innovative ideas and have really made this game into something!

I'm glad the devs are hard at work and doing what needs to be done to get this game going and make it an awesome launch. Thanks for all the threads and replies (sarcastic or not). I'm looking forward to more of them too!
